John 13:5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
After The Last Supper, the disciples were bickering about who is greatest. Their pride was so thick. Jesus took a basin and a towel and knealt before each disciple washing their feet as the lowest of servants. Jesus was showing the disciples how to Love one another. He told them, “For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.”-John 13:15-17
Jesus knew the hour was approaching; the hour that would confuse all of His disciples; the hour that would tear open the veil that seperates believers from the Holy of Holies. The disciples were about to witness the suffering of their Lord as he carried the sin of the world on his shoulders.
Isaiah 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Jesus left the last supper after washing their feet and went to the Mount of Olives to pray. It was from there he would be arrested and taken from His disciples. His last act of service and most powerful example we should live by was washing the feet of His followers. The humility we need is unexplainable. Only by watching Christ, can we understand what it takes to Be the Light.
John 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
