The Three Parts of You
1 Corinthians 6:19 – What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
There are three parts that make up the whole you: Spirit, Soul and Body.
Romans 6:12 – Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Body: After Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to His disciples and said in Luke 24:39 “Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.”
We have flesh and bones. Our flesh can motivate us to do what feels good. It is dangerous to live after the flesh, as it does not consider what comes next. The flesh is all about feeling good now.
Mark 14:38 – Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 – And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Soul: Our soul is the natural man/woman. It is your human nature to want to be accepted, to want relationships. Do what comes natural to know your soul. The throne of our soul is our mind.
Our mind can be deceived and manipulated. The media can convince people they should buy certain things. For many people, the entertainment industry shows them the way to live and what standards of living are acceptable.
Galatians 5:16 – This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Romans 8:10 – And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Spirit: Our spirit motivates us beyond reason. When we believe in something, we are spiritual. The mind has proof and logic. Our spirit transcends the world’s reality and knows that there is more to life than what we see with our eyes and feel with our body (Ephesians 4).
If we abide in Christ and allow Him to live in our heart, we yield our spirit to the Holy Spirit. We must also cleanse our spirit with the washing of the Word (Ephesians 5:26).
It is difficult to seek and save the lost without being exposed to evil. We must daily put on the whole armor of God to defend our spirit against the wiles of Satan (Ephesians 6:11).
1 Corinthians 6:20 – For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
