Start with Prayer
Matthew 21:13a (NLT) He said to them, “The Scriptures declare,
‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer,’
Start any journey with prayer. Before we build or rebuild, pray. Start each day with prayer.
If we are trying to live for Christ and share God’s Love, the devil is seeking our life. He wants to destroy our testimony. We must Pray in all things as we travel through this world.
Proverbs 16:3 (NIV) – Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
I was sitting in stopped morning traffic in the fast lane of Interstate 20 in Douglasville, GA. Because of traffic, I could not move my car. A car going 60 mph (97 kmh) the other way lost control from the slow lane, 100 yards away. As this car’s tires smoked, it veered about 80 degrees coming directly at me at 60+ mph.
There was nothing I could do but pray. I was praying for the driver to wake up before I realized the car was coming towards mine. Not once did fear strike me, as I prayed. God was controlling my thoughts and prayers.
God revealed to me that the devil just made a weapon of that car and struck at me with full vengeance. I believe that God’s Grace was upon that driver and they survived. God allows events in our lives to wake us up.
I testify now, God saved my life. At that moment it was a concrete barrier that saved my life, but God was watching over me.
The following is Jesus’ prayer. Notice verse 15 as you read it passionately:
John 17:13-19 (NIV) – “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
Jesus still prays to the Father that you be sanctified.
If I imagine walking from one village to another in the African jungle, I would start the journey with prayer. There are many dangers and risks involved with that trip.
If you were going to jog an Ultramarathon (56.1 miles) across South Africa, would you pray first?
Acts 6:4,6-8, 10, 15 (KJV)
4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.
15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
