A center of civilization, One of the first cities in history with a population over 200,000, Older than Asian Empires and Indian Empires and the Roman Empire, Babylon was a city that grew up after the Sumerian way. Ancient Mesopotamia is the oldest recorded civilization.
Babylon was between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers a few miles south of Bagdad, Iraq. Its ruins laid desolate for thousands of years. Its legacy is less than perfect.
Babylon is credited for starting the 60 minute hour and the 360 degree circle. Its scholars could predict lunar eclipses. Hammurabi, a great Babylonian ruler, set up a network of officials and judges, kept separate from a royal priesthood.
The Babylonians expanded commerce based on cuneiform writing and a shared language. They adopted sorcery and false religions. A stone slab with Hammurabi’s code was found in Iran in 1901.
Babylon was later conquered by Cyrus the Great. This Middle East region has been invaded throughout centuries being dominated by the Assyrian Empire and later the Persian Empire.

8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.
The city of Babylon is just famous ruins. The fate of Babylon serves as an example for anyone hurting the Nation of Israel (Isaiah 14:2)
